the simple definition of

Dynamic Eating Psychology

Dynamic Eating Psychology is a positive and empowering approach to transforming our eating challenges. It’s designed for ANYONE who eats. It includes tools, techniques, maps, skills and protocols that are results driven and sustainable. It recognizes that our eating challenges are intimately connected to ALL of what makes us human – relationship, family, work, money, sexuality, spirituality, our search for fulfillment, and much more. And it sees our concerns with food NOT as an indication that we’re broken, but as a powerful opportunity to grow and evolve.

Each of us has a unique food and body story. Dynamic Eating Psychology affirms the importance of this epic story. It helps us transform our eating concerns through a deeper understanding of what they’re here to teach us, using the right skills, and within a context of love and insight. And it honors all of who we are as eaters – body, mind, heart and soul.

Eating Psychology works because everyone has a unique relationship with food driven by their beliefs, mindset, emotions, and past. And Eating Psychology is so effective because it provides the right tools and strategies that can help catalyze lasting change with greater ease.

What is IFS*?

{ Internal Family Systems* }

“Internal Family Systems” {IFS} is an evidence-based non-pathologizing therapeutic model—developed by the founder of the IFS Institute, Dr. Richard Schwartz—that views every human being as a system of protective and wounded inner parts guided by a core Self {which I myself prefer to call Soul}. It teaches that the mind is naturally multiple—and that this multiplicity is healthy—because, like members of a family, inner parts can be pushed into extreme roles but also have valuable inherent qualities. IFS helps people access their undamaged, compassionate Self {or Soul}, which knows how to heal, and from that inner leadership, understand and transform their parts, fostering both inner and outer connectedness.

In addition to being a non-pathologizing psychotherapy, IFS also provides a way of better understanding personal and intimate relationships and stepping into life with the 8 Cs: confidence, calm, compassion, courage, creativity, clarity, curiosity, and connectedness. Professionals from many different backgrounds such as body workers, mediators, school administrators, life coaches, and religious leaders have used IFS as a lens to inform and guide their work.

IFS Parts Work

IFS Parts work is a therapeutic approach based on IFS theory that helps individuals understand and engage with their internal subpersonalities, or "parts," which each have unique roles and emotions. This method aims to foster self-compassion and healing by allowing the core Self or Soul to lead and integrate these parts harmoniously.

This is

Reparenting

I consider Reparenting to be one of the most beautiful and effective methods for inner healing, as it is one of the most compassionate and kindest, yet the most powerful healing applications. When reparenting is practiced on a regular basis, the positive results that occur “inside”, in our internal “world” or “system” will manifest on the “outside”, in our external realm, as well.

Therefore, whatever our suffering or pain is, a physical one, or a mental, emotional, psychological — or even a spiritual one, “Reparenting works when our intention is to be compassionate towards our suffering.” “The goal of reparenting isn’t to become better, but to become better at loving ourselves.” “We can reparent not because we have to, or because we want to get rid of the pain, but because it is the kindest response to pain” {excerpts from the Loving Parent Guidebook by Adult Children of Alcoholics & Dysfunctional Families.}

“Reparenting Work” may be referred to as “Inner Child Work”, but the work places the emphasis on helping persons in pain to become their own loving and caring parent. Although it works superbly for adults who experienced adverse childhood to heal the trauma that still lingers in their adulthood, I’ve witnessed that it’s also worked wonders for adults who faced traumatic experiences later in their lives, and have been suffering from them. This is because reparenting is a kind of healing that aims to reach our tender or hurt & wounded parts within {which are often referred to as our younger parts, hence the inner child} who, behind the physical suffering, suffer emotionally and psychologically {or even spiritually}, so that we can be there for them, connect with them, and give them what they/we truly need — from the inside out.

“Hungry Ghosts”

Hungry ghosts, as articulated by Dr. Gabor Maté, are a metaphor derived from Buddhist philosophy. They symbolize individuals who are in a constant state of seeking fulfillment but are unable to achieve it. This inability often stems from deep emotional pain or unresolved trauma. Its concept illustrates how compulsive behaviors or addictions can be a desperate attempt to fill an internal void that stems from unresolved issues and unmet needs.

In the book In the Realm of Hungry Ghosts, he wrote: “The hungry ghosts are depicted as these creatures with large empty bellies and small scrawny necks with narrow gullets and small mouths. No matter what they do, they cannot ever fill that emptiness inside, and that relates to me as the realm of addiction.”

Although I’ve never called the parts of me that wanted to eat all the time by the name “hungry ghosts”, the feeling I had got me to feel as if I were possessed by ghosts or cursed by their dark spells. Then, when I heard that Dr. Maté used this term in relation to compulsive behaviors or addictions, what he wrote “clicked” perfectly with my experience. However, after years of trying to connect with them and finally learning who they truly are, these days, I see them funny and adorable—like the image below. And although the issues we cover here are serious issues, when the name The Hungry Ghost Whisperer™ came to me, it vividly came with playfulness and creativity from both my Soul and my parts. That’s why I gratefully received it with my full-being “Yes!” because it fit perfectly and resonated wholeheartedly!

the

Whisperer

Have you heard of animal whisperers?

Here’s what petworks.com wrote: “An animal whisperer is someone who claims to have an innate ability to understand and communicate with animals on a deeper level than most people can… Animal whisperers often describe their abilities as a form of intuitive communication, where they can pick up on an animal’s thoughts, feelings, and needs through subtle cues and a deep sense of empathy. This form of communication is not necessarily vocal or verbal but relies on an intuitive understanding of body language, energy, and emotions. Some whisperers believe that they can “hear” animals’ thoughts, while others interpret signals through physical sensations, images, or emotions that they believe are transmitted from the animal to them.”

Therefore, same as an animal whisperer, a Hungry Ghost Whisperer™ is someone with the same abilities and powers! And to me, in all of us who feel as if they had “hungry ghosts” within them, at the Core of them which I call “Soul" or “Essence” also lies their own Hungry Ghost Whisperer™!

That’s why as The Hungry Ghost Whisperer™ and as your coach and mentor, I guide you to connect and embody your own Soul—or your own Hungry Ghost Whisperer™—so that you can utilize Its abilities and powers for your healing!
